Last week, on the 30th and 31st of January, the “1st Son Espases – Clínic Barcelona Valve Repair Workshop using Subaortic Annuloplastic Devices” took place in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). This comprehensive course on Aortic Valve Repair (AVR), focused on annuloplasty techniques, valve anatomy and echo analysis, and it was aimed at specialists interested in conservative surgery.
This comprehensive course on AVR was led by Dr. Sáez de Ibarra (Hospital Son Espases) and sponsored by Cardiolink. National and international renowned cardiac surgeons such as Prof. Marek Jasinski (Cardiac Surgery Clinic, Medical University of Wroclaw) and Prof. José Luis Pomar (Hospital Clínic, Barcelona) also contributed to this course as speakers.
The Scientific Update tackled the Aortic Valve Repair techniques; its indications and different choices. In addition, the first Spanish cases on AVR using an Aortic Annuloplasty Ring were described. After the theoretical part of the course, the different attendees had the opportunity to practice the exposed annuloplasty techniques using 3 workstations (porcine hearts). Finally, some live cases were performed.
